Autumn In The Northeast: Four Simple Ideas For Appreciating Fall This Year
I’m a self proclaimed long weekend professional. Come the day before a three day trip, I can turn out a packed bag, snacks for the road and a flexible schedule in a few minutes flat. Yes, I, Laura, am a long weekend trip nerd. I live for this stuff (but you probably remember that from this post last spring). Luckily, the last few months have been stocked with those glorious three day weekends for me to completely geek out over. Even better? They occurred during the most picturesque time of the year. Autumn in the northeast is a treat. A truly delightful, gloriously yellow and orange treat.
As someone who’s considered moving just about everywhere she’s traveled to (no lie… it’s kind of a problem), one of the biggest perks of living in Pennsylvania is its changing seasons. Our winters are about as picturesque as a timeless Christmas card, our springs are bursting with colorful blooms, our summers are dripping in humidity, and our falls are just about as good as it gets. It’s difficult to imagine living in an area without these apparent and beautiful changes.
That being said, I feel particularly thankful for the current autumnal changes in the northeast this time of year. Celebrating the colorful fall leaves, attending the pumpkin parties our friends host… all of these lovely northeastern fall rituals may or may not be in our realities this time next year. It only seems right to celebrate this beautiful season accordingly. If you’re living in the northeast this fall, let’s celebrate the season together! Here are four simple ideas for appreciating fall this year.
Do A Color Comparison
Pick a tree, any tree. Maybe you already know of the most epic tree in your neighborhood, because every area has one! Take a “before” shot in early autumn, or even right now as the colors are beginning to become vibrant, and continue to take “check in” photos every few days or so until all it’s pretty little leaves are gone.
I love being able to see the transition between the first shot and the last. Flipping through them makes me feel like I’m watching an old animation video. Guys, mother nature has a great eye for color!
Get The Warm, Fuzzies Out
Oh yes, one of my favorite days of autumn is when it’s been consistently cool enough to bring out all of the warm, fuzzy sweaters, scarfs and boots out. It’s kind of like unwrapping presents on Christmas day! Something about rocking a scarf and beanie on the first blustery day of the year feels so-freaking-good. Get ready to get cozy and love every second of it.
Seasonal Meals Equal Seasonal Squeals
Ain’t no shame in the game. Relish in all the pumpkin spice flavored everything, order a hot cider, make an apple pie, simmer a butternut squash soup… become a master chef of all fall flavors. It’s cliche, but who cares? Create a Pinterest board of all the seasonal recipes you’ve been meaning to make and do your best to make as least one a week.
Create A Seasonal Bucket List
Oh yes! Seasonal bucket lists are a great way to appreciate the shifting weather and a fantastic way to start new traditions with friends. So get your imagination in check and make a list of all the fun and autumn-y events you want to take part in. The season only lasts so long, so you definitely want to make sure to take advantage of every minute of it before it’s gone. Want more tips on what to include in your fall bucket list?
