Capri

Enormous seaside craggy, white limestone formations and grottos of the brightest aquamarine water I’ve ever seen, Capri is the kind of beauty only imagined by screenwriters and poets. Its mystifying natural state makes the idea of water nymphs and sirens seem like not too far of a stretch. Capri is simply a striking muse languidly existing midway through the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its captivating, mythical landscape was written of in some of the most epic tales (I’m talking to you Odysseus/ Ulysses) and I understand why Homer and many other writers, poets and artists felt so inspired by the island. Blame it on my serious infatuation with steep, seaside cliffs… I could go on and on about the island’s unreal allure.

Going to Capri was an impulsive, last minute decision Luke and I made (we more or less decided on going 24 hours beforehand), but we certainly didn’t regret it at all… even if getting to the island was a trip and a half. Departing from Naples Mollo Beverello port and having a near insane Italian woman directing us back and forth between docks and then not knowing where to depart from until just before the ferry arrived, it was the definition of mass chaos. But either way, we eventually arrived in paradise and the drama was all but forgotten within minutes.

Capri is one of the destinations Luke’s grandparents highly recommended for us to visit during our time in Europe. They were so right. I almost feel like we did the island a disservice by not staying longer than a day. Luke and I both were ridiculously bummed when we trudged ourselves to dock the last ferry back to Italy’s mainland. We didn’t even get a chance to try limoncello! Sad face.

Because our time here was limited (6 hours), Luke and I made sure that the majority of our time was spent out in the water. After departing our ferry, we immediately found a boat tour that encompassed the island’s main seaside sights. Although the day’s choppy waters stopped us from entering the famous Grotta Azzurra, we loved being out on the ocean all the same. In fact, the only time we spent land-loving was for a stroll through tiny, steep, winding pathways up to the city center for a quick lunch overlooking the water. Shortly after we were back by the beaches, dipping our toes in the Tyrrhenian.

Can I just say again that Capri is surrounded by the bluest waters I ever did see? Listen, I get it Capri… this ain’t the Jersey shore. But seriously. Electric blue waves on pebbled beaches? Shockingly emerald and vivid teal bays? ….You’re kidding me. Like I said, too much beauty. I’ll be sharing more of our short time in Capri soon!
